Schlitz is not a beer you adopted into adulthood. It’s a beer you encountered early, drank briefly, and then never touched again for the next ten or twenty years. You didn’t quit it with intention. It just faded out once you realized you had other options and fewer reasons to prove anything.

Back then, Schlitz felt old-school in a way that tricked you into thinking you were being worldly. The label said history. The taste said efficiency. It sat on tables next to an ashtray and a glass pipe that belonged to whoever reached for it last. You drank it while standing around rooms that smelled like smoke and optimism, telling yourself this counted as character.

You didn’t swear off Schlitz. You just stopped. One day you didn’t buy it. One day you didn’t smoke indoors. One day you stopped pretending standing around a table was a lifestyle. Schlitz stayed behind with that phase, along with the pipe, the ashtray, and the belief that this was how things were supposed to feel.
